I can get good fun out of both games, but only because I usually give my sims a fair bit of backstory and such. I find that TS3 is much better for just playing and letting the game guide what happens because that game is so fun. You can theoretically play every single household in each townit's easy to switch back and forth, and you can even turn off aging so your Sims don't die while you're playing with.
